No Celebrating This 4th of July
I have to be honest- I'm kind of glad to have a really good excuse not to go out and watch fireworks this year. I really don't like the crowds, the muggy, buggy weather, and the late night that 4th of July presents. I know.... I'm a mean, nasty mom. Fortunately my kids have never been to a 4th of July celebration, so they don't know what they are missing.
This weekend we are supposed to have record breaking heat. We are also supposed to have monsoon storms both Sunday and Monday evenings. Talk about hot and gross! I really don't want to sit around outside for hours waiting for a 10 minute fireworks show. We will try to go out in our yard Sunday night and see if we can see the display from the neighboring town, which we should be able to. I know we can hear it every year.
Instead of going out, we'll do a family activity here at home. Daniel has recently taught the girls how to play both checkers and chess. All three of them are now obsessed with the games. That should keep us all busy for the evening. It's nice and low key, too. Just what I need right now.
What are your plans for the holiday weekend?

Karen...I know what ya mean. I don't like heat, or bugs...and I don't like all of the loud noises, cuz it makes me nervous. But aside from all of that I do like the whole idea of the 4th of July! The Freedom thing and the history of it.
I like the family gathering, and the food and fellowship too. Usually we let the adult kids do their own thing...but this year we are having everyone over here to grill steaks. Then whoever wants to can stay for fireworks at the park.
We are also celebrating a couple of birthdays which will be fun. 10 yr. old grandson, and 13 yr. old granddaughter. There will be 19 of us...but usually an added friend or two!
Enjoy your peaceful day and evening!

Enjoy your evening in spending time with your family!!!
Linda: That sounds like a fun time! We usually have a big family gathering for holidays, but 4th of July has never been one of those. Happy Birthday to your grandchildren!
Stephanie: Thank you! I think it will be a good time.
Enjoy your evening. We go see the fireworks but don't get in the crowds! I totally understand what you are saying! Great 6WS!
Thanks Susan. I think it will be a nice night!
We can see three sets of local fireworks displays from our deck up here, halfway up the mountain, the closest being that of our home village; pretty close and pretty loud. It's usually enough for me, though I hafta admit: sometimes, nothing beats being right under them.
Ah well; a little tequila makes up the difference!
I don't like crowds either. I can see the town fireworks kind of from my house. But we do fireworks with the family and there's usually only about 10 or 15 of us so it's not that bad. :) (Found your blog from Six Word Saturday!)
No 4th July in Australia (well there is the date, but no celebration) so you could always hop on over here! I must say I don't always go for Australia Day so know what you mean.
Good for you, it should be celebrated by each person....not the masses....we will have a the yearly run (way too early in the morn)...breakfast -parade- grilling - and then the fireworks! ...by evening it's well worth the family gathering and watching explosions of colors dancing through the sky!
I know what you mean, we always avoid all the St Patrick's Day stuff here and just have fun at home.
Have a great, quiet, weekend.
We always watched the fireworks from our patio. Hubby couldn't stand the crowds and my son can't stand loud noises. So he draws a flag and sings the national anthem and we just hang out together! I like you plan too!
Understand ~ I think 'fireworks' are highly over rated ~ still and all I will people in tonight for snacks and fireworks later ~ (if fog doesn't prevent them) ~ I live in MA on the coast ~ Then tomorrow is a cook out at my brothers and then I am looking forward to 'chillin out' watching the Pops or the Washington DC for a bit to whine down ~ Your Fourth sounds just right with you and your family ~ checkers and chess are great for all ~ Enjoy ^_^
