About Me!

Hello!  Thank you for stopping by my blog and taking a few minutes to find out who I am.

My name is Karen.  I am a wife, a mother, a daughter, and a sister.  I wear a whole bunch of other hats, too.  I am a friend, and a teacher.

I graduated with my teaching degree in December 2010, but I didn't walk until April 2011 due to the university's schedule.  The people who love me most, my husband, children, and parents, were at the ceremony, and we had an incredible party the next day with the rest of my friends and family.

This blog started as a way to stay accountable for my decision to start living a healthy lifestyle.  I quit smoking, I started eating right, and I started to exercise.  I was doing pretty well with all of that until March 23, 2011.  That day I was taken to the hospital via ambulance, and diagnosed with costochondritis.  A week later I was diagnosed with shingles, and life completely changed for me when I was hospitalized with severe complications.

Due to all of this, my blog has evolved, and I can't say I'm sorry about that.  I'm enjoying expanding my horizons a little bit, and this blog has now turned into a more rounded view of me, my life, and the time I enjoy with my family.

One of my interests is writing (surprise, surprise), and I have taken a plunge to share some of my short stories here on my blog.  Be sure to check those out.  I am always interested in feedback.  Please be kind about it, but I am open to constructive criticism as well as praise.  I'd love to hear what works in my stories and what could be changed!

My other interests include reading, watching TV and movies, and playing board games and card games.  I'm pretty much a homebody and would rather sit around a backyard campfire than hit the party scene. That's pretty much me!  Give me a cup of hot chocolate in the winter or a cup of iced tea in the summer and an open ear, and I can make a friend just about anywhere.

Pull up a chair, grab a roasting stick, and start toasting your marshmallow.  We have a lot of catching up to do!
