Yogurt

I'm linking up to Ghosts of Blogging Past, recycling an old post from my first week of blogging.

DID YOU KNOW? Eating 6 ounces of fat-free yogurt daily boosts weight loss by 81%, says study.

I got this fact from the Eat This, Not That newsletter that I get. I'm not quite sure why yogurt has this effect, but I keep hearing it from various sources. I will have to look into why it works. Either way, I like yogurt so this works for me!

Edited to include more information: Interesting.... researchers don't know WHY the yogurt works, either. They are working on finding out the reason behind it, but all studies have shown the yogurt to work. If anyone finds more information about this subject I would love to read it.

My Goals

I suppose now that I have asked for help, it is time to make my goals known. To be honest, I'm not quite sure how to define them anymore. I went into this saying I wanted to lose 60 pounds by the time I started student teaching. That would bring me to 120 pounds, the "ideal weight" for my build. However, I now think that may be an unrealistic goal. My mom thinks I'll be happy at 150. So, I guess I'll start there and see what happens.

More than likely the scale won't be used once I start really getting to where I want to be. I guess the bottom line is that I want to have a flatter stomach, defined arms (I don't want them to jiggle when I write on the board), and legs that are strong and don't rub together when I walk. So, there it is..... I guess I'll know it when I see it.

This post was not at all helpful and has perhaps confused me more than I already was. But.... I feel it is important to have SOME type of defined goal in writing.

MetCon class

MetCon is short for Metabolic Conditioning. Essentially it is cardio and strength training mixed together. 30 minutes of moving and working hard, which feels great. I have found, however, that this class works better for me in the evening. Then I can veg for the rest of the night if I need to. Today I took the class at 10 AM. Not such a great idea. I'm exhausted and ready for a nap. The good news is that I can get a nap in today. I've already warned the kids we are relaxing after lunch. Surprisingly there were no arguments about that. I think they need some time to chill after a hard school year, too.

What is High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)?

I knew HFCS was not good for us, but I never quite knew why. Here is a simple explanation:

A New Beginning

It's time for a new start. I've been using this excuse and that excuse for too long, and it's time to stop. I have made a commitment to myself to become healthy in both my body and my mind. It's time to do something just for me- to be the person I want to be on the inside and the outside. This will be a huge project and one that will be ongoing, probably for the rest of my life.

This all started when Daniel made a quick comment about joining a gym to help with his efforts to quit smoking. After thinking about it for a few days I told him I didn't want to wait until he had quit, which was his original plan. He agreed, and we set out to find a gym. We wound up at Pure Fitness, which has been a GREAT fit for us! The price is right, the people are great, and it is a place I feel at home.

I hope you will join me on this adventure. Check in once in awhile and make sure I'm doing what I should be. I'll be posting my progress and some health articles I come across that I think others will enjoy. I hope my efforts will encourage a healthy lifestyle for all!
